Budapest RAQS – The Cairo! Fest group choreography project

An exciting new project for dedicated oriental dancers with a vision!
Join a two months long inspiring training program with Mercedes and as a result perform a choreography with her and an international group of dancers on the main gala show of the CAIRO! Fest Budapest – live!
If you’ve ever seen a performance of Mercedes’s Nymph Oriental Dance Company, you know what style, mood and approach you can expect of this group project: a performance of an artistic stage choreography with a special focus on expressivity, storytelling and group cohesion.

Aim: gaining experience on every level, technical growth, enhancing creativity, being part of a supporting and motivating ambient of an international group of dedicated dancers, perform an artistically challenging piece on an important stage of the bellydance community, and enjoy every step along the way.

- Level: professional, semi-professional, advanced
- Language of classes: English
- Training dates and hours: every Wednesday between 9th March and 27th April 2022 (8 classes) at 7.30-8.30 pm (CET)
- Live rehearsals: 2nd & 3rd of May in Budapest, Hungary – in person (that means you need to travel to Budapest min. 3 days prior the festival)
- Format: you can join the trainings live in Budapest OR online through Zoom. However it’s adviced to be part of the trainings in real time, in case your time zone doesn’t allow you to do so, re-watch option is possible too (except of the final rehearsal on the last week, and the live rehearsals in May.)
- Performer Participation: Limited spaces! Maximum 6 performers can be be selected to be cast for the project (with performing on stage).
- Explorer Participation: YES you can be part of the project and benefit from the creative process even if you don’t plan to perform. (In this case the live rehearsal is not obligatory and additional costs don’t apply. Feedbacks – through videos – are also included.)
- Cost of the project for Performers: 250 EUR (includes 8 classes, 2 live rehearsals, feedbacks and guidance, live performance, photos and videos of the performance)
- For Explorers: 200 EUR
In addition to the fee, you’ll be expected to cover your travel and accommodation expenses in Budapest, and the costume costs (which will be apx. 200 EUR and will be yours to keep). The project is available for CAIRO! Fest Budapest participants only, that means minimum 2 Day Passes bought for the Festival.
Method of application:
send us a registration email with your dance CV and your dance video (YouTube link) not older than 2 years old by 8th March.
- You will receive a Zoom link to the live online training class on the 9th March (7.30-8.30 pm CET) where you will be asked to take part as part of the audition. I will teach a combination that you will need to practice, record (yourself dancing it) and send it to us by 14th March. (In case you can only rewatch the class video, you can still join, you will get the class video – but deadlines still apply.)
- You will be notified by 15th March whether your application was accepted or not. You have time to pay the resitration fee for the project and for the Festival by the end of March.
- Those who will not be selected for cast can still join as „Explorers”.
- Explorers don’t need to go through the audition process.
